since [ profile] ravena_kade and [ profile] deva_fagan asked, the new countertop:

with holes.

(those are granite drill plugs the lady at the stone place gave me. they're from a different stone than our countertop - one is black and one is cream-ish. and yes, the middle hole is all scratched up where they perhaps allowed the bit to slide... after just realizing they'd drilled off-center)

what if you put a dark silicone caulk around it (maybe over it) and made it smooth with a putty knife. You can wash the silicone, but you would need to see if they made something safe for food if you wanted to roll pie crust over it.

you're the second person to suggest that :) i intended to head over to Lowes and see if they had any inexpensive ideas, and caulk was one of them :D and yeah - good point to remind them that i DEFINITELY need something food-safe!

it also obviously could use some rounding of edges and corners. neither of us has gotten scraped up yet, but it's sort of inevitable if we have company over that someone will get stabbed. i'm probably going to try to sand it down myself, and hoping Lowes has some ideas on hasps or files, etc. my dad has old metal (to be used on wood) files in the basement back home, and my mom said i could have them, but i don't know how much good they'd do on stone.

i ended up getting a clear silicone caulk when it became obvious my choices were white, cream, tan, beige, and brown. :/ my housemate advised me that the people throw away ALL MANNER of stone plugs in the woods behind the office, and i'm wondering if i can get her to show me where and take a quick look before i commit to the plugs the stone-lady gave me. they had more than just this remnant of the green stone; they might have plugs to match in the woods. :D or even a slightly lighter green.
