i've hiked The Cliff Trail (the faery trail) in Harpswell a half dozen times this season already. each time it seems like i've had better and better luck with wildlife (and 'other') visitations.

a few trips ago, it was the red squirrels running along the tree branches to about head height and staring speculatively at me from 5-10 feet away, as if they were debating whether or not to jump onto my head, and what would happen if they did.

earlier this week, a friend and i were hanging out at the Overlook, and - as ravens or crows flew beneath us - i was explaining that i'd never yet seen bald eagles while i was hiking this trail. a few minutes later, across the water, a pair of bald eagles began to surf the air currents; one even did a fly-by, maybe a hundred or so feet above our heads. ("I want a million dollars!")

today, during my pre-Beltane hike, there were birds, squirrels, another bald eagle, AND a chunk of quartz rock broke off in my hand when i went to pick up some birch bark to complete the faery house i was repairing in the far building site.

i know i didn't come home alone.

Yay for the eagles.

I would love to walk there sometime.

Not sure what the Fae think of cameras though.

i think they're fine with you taking pictures of everything but them unless they're feeling very mischievous. and yeah, when you come up and visit, i'll have to take you there. :D

... and then they start helping you do the dishes, and you burst into song...

really they just expect to be fed and make you drop stuff if you don't feed them enough. :D

i'm sure they help when and where they can, though. and honestly, they have a bum rap. primates get this visitation on day millennia ago and they're invested with this divine spirit and all the angelic fey are told that now we're the big shots in town, and we take that as a mandate to despoil the earth, and the nature fey, who are just wandering around minding their own business get caught in the middle of the conflicts between the upper fey and the angels and the evolving humans, and they honestly just want trees to live in and clean water...

so i feel bad for them. the last 60K years have NOT been goof for them. we sort of suck as a species. and yeah, we're going to pay for that suckage, but in the meantime, the nature spirits deserve sanctuary.
