there aren't a lot of already-dead trees around here, but we have a few pileated woodpeckers. it may just be a result of math. but since i'm gardening for wildlife and i've done a lot of soil enrichment and planting, it could just be that i'm finally seeing the result in better insect colonies. i mean... someone has to do something. i'm pretty concerned about all the articles i've read on insect die-off.
