in which there is work and gardening.
May. 23rd, 2009 09:19 am
Thursday: Mass (7-7:30), donate blood (8-10), work (4 hrs; 11am-5:30pm), home.
Friday: work (3.5 hrs; 10am-5pm), errands, home.
Saturday: work (4.5 hrs; 10am-5:30pm), errands?
it's wonderful to be bustling again (we were less busy when the weather first improved), and i'm on vacation the week after next (no money coming in), but i seriously doubt doing 12 hrs of massage in 3 days is ever going to be easy for me. yay having tomorrow and Monday off. :)

garden update:
hyacinths have been gone about three weeks and their bulblets are ready to be collected and planted, which is on my "To Do" list. tulips just ended last week. all of the perennial bulbs should be rousted out and divided, colors and types shared amongst the various parts of that front flower bed, but i think i'm going to wait til foliage die-back to do it, maybe dig in some compost (which is coming along nicely, and should be done).
the peonies have an amazing amount of buds on them. the roses, too, are budding out, especially the established bushes. i'm very happy with how well the herb garden 'took' - everything looks like it survived being transplanted, and is thriving. the raspberry bushes are really spreading, which is very cool.
the gladiolus are coming up. the lilac bush is doing well, though i'm still considering moving it. the flowering dogwood (after a couple days of exceedingly unhappiness with being bare-rooted and yanked out of its previous place, which was the only way i could get it out) has acclimated to its new spot and appears to be sending out new leaves. the tree swallows have taken over the birdhouse and have nested. it's amazing to hear them outside my window every morning, watch them swooping circles around the yard doing their bug-catching thing.
i bought more asparagus to put in the bed currently occupied by the baby trees, but until i get them moved, it's obviously impossible. i've been waiting on moving them until i can positively ID them, because i'd like to put a redbud or a sargent crabapple in the herb garden bed, and i'm not sure what is what. it's kind of frustrating trying to ID baby trees. *wry grin*
i did plant all the things i bought up at the Phoenix Flower Farm on Wednesday: the goldenrod and buttonbush in the wetter area by the neighbor's fence (which is where i also hope to plant butterfly weed and purple coneflower), and the woodland aster in the front of the house in one of the beds that gets more shade. i need to do some tying to the buttonbush - it has crossing limb growth that i didn't notice when i bought it, and i truly don't want to prune it yet.
the vegetable garden is coming, slowly. i covered it against the frost we had earlier this week, but the tomatoes and peppers still took a hit. everything appears to be bouncing back, and the beans and peas and lettuce and squash are all growing.

so, that's my life. or at least the stable parts of it. ;) hope yours is going as well or better!
