trying not to think any more about NY politics today. between Golisano and Congel, it's all very $25,000 Pyramid meets Romper Room, with expensive suits and expense accounts.

i must be getting tan.

i know this because i wasn't wearing eye make-up today, yet my second client came out after the massage, began drinking her water, and did a double-take while looking at me:

client: "Your eyes are the same color as your shirt."
me: "Ummm... they are?"
client: "Yes. They're beautiful. Wow."
me: *face burning* "Umm, well, thank you."
client: *grinning* "Sorry. Didn't mean to make you uncomfortable."

afterwards, i remembered how [livejournal.com profile] temperlj, after meeting me for the first time, commented that my eyes looked like a frozen pond (in a far more lyrical way) but i very rarely think of them as light-colored. sometimes i find myself wondering if doing energy work lightens my eyes. then again, i look in a mirror all of once a day, so what the heck do i know (other than that they *do* change colors). yet in the morning, they almost always look dark to me.

and then there's the alternate, more scientific, explaination: it could be the orientation of the sun when i'm in my bathroom (morning) versus the sun when i'm usually working.

i saw a flash of orange fly into a tree today, which resolved itself into a Baltimore oriole ("The weaving of new sunshine, can open doors to positive relationship with all members of nature realm"). in addition, the male and female Rose-Breasted Grosbeaks were at the feeder, along with a female cardinal, and literally dozens of goldfinches. the tree swallows changed shifts while i was debating whether or not to water the baby tree under their house, so i know i've seen a male and female tree swallow. the hummingbirds were dueling by their feeder. and, of course, the robins and mourning doves are everywhere.

as for the bluebirds, they did find the other bluebird house...

...the other bluebird house i had last year. the one i gave to my neighbors down the street (because every time they walked by they wistfully admired the bluebirds in our yard, and they have a corner lot and lots of mown grass which i thought would be perfect for another house). the wife was out in her driveway over the weekend when i rode by on my bicycle:

me: "I saw the male! He's sitting on the house right now."
neighbor: "Thank you SO much for giving us the house! I'm sorry you don't have them too..."
me: "It's OK. We have the tree swallows, and at least the bluebirds are in the neigborhood."

and yes, i meant it. :D

weeded a small chunk of the vegetable garden this morning, and realized those nobby bunnies have eaten the foliage off at least a dozen (and probably closer to twenty) bean bushes.

the little idjits can pull a Pooh any day now. *wry grin
