i'd forgotten how nice it is to sit and relax after a long day; having given three massages, shared cookies and coffee with best friend, run three miles, and taken a long, hot, shower... with peppermint soap!

it's nice to be able to idly read email and livejournal, chat, and watch Lord of the Rings (i caught my mom watching it when i came upstairs from shower).

yay being home. :)

I adore Aragorn, but he is still not King.

(If I'm not making you giggle, then you really need to go read the The Very Secret Diaries!)

Sean Bean is yummy! ;-)

And Boromir totally redeems himself just before he dies in the movie.

yes... but this is redemption? i suppose in saving the hobbits...

still, would have been better had he grabbed the hobbits and RAN. well, better in a "they all live" way, not a "dramatic" way. *wry look*

well... he's weak and gives in to the Ring.

although, i do agree the actor who plays him is cute. ;)

From: [identity profile] brickhousewench.livejournal.com
I don't think he's weak for giving in to the ring. The whole point of the ring is that it would overpower all but the very strongest of spirits. Even Gandalf and Galadriel are afraid to take it. I never thought that the fact that he succumbed to the ring meant that Boromir was weak.

Besides, as lunchboxcomiks pointed out, more dramatic that way. =P

yesyes, i'm aware that a valiant death makes great press.

all forward to the great abyss. ;)

(and his brother, Faramir, resists - moreso in the book than in the movie, which annoyed me no end. IMHO, the point of the Ring was that some personality types would become corrupted by its presence easier than others... those who desired power over love. the hobbits aren't affected. even Pippin, who's an idiot, is only ensnared in the paladir through his curiousity. its a case of any personality trait becoming master over the others...)

When I was a kid, my mom came back from church one day and said that they had a guest minister who gave a sermon saying that the truly evil character in LotRs was Gollum for succumbing to the Ring. I thought about it and realized that that was bullshit. Yes, he wasn't a great person, but the whole idea of the Ring was that eventually ANYONE would succumb; that was why it had to be destroyed. Even Frodo eventually fell to the Ring. (Which is one reason why I find the book to be so interesting; how many stories have you read where the hero, at the end, FAILS!)

And Boromir redeems himself in the only way that he could. He was one of those who truly exemplified the idea of "Live by the sword, die by the sword." Faramir could resist the lure because he was more well rounded, and thus he could see the danger that his brother could not.

and you know, i thought the Ring had to be destroyed because it housed the majority of the Devil's soul and therefore could only be used to evil ends.

silly me. ;)

as far as "even Frodo" falling, who else could have carried that ring INTO MORDOR (into Hell) and STILL managed to remain uncorrupted until the very last second?

those who valued "good food and cheer" over power and glory (words from the book) were the one who could resist wanting the Ring the longest. it was the central theme.

which is why i didn't like Boromir. it took him until death's door to see what was important. i blame his dad ;)

Yay peppermint soap, and yay Lord of the Rings!

I'll probably be introducing my dad to the movies this week; I think he will like them. And I'm in your corner when it comes to Aragorn. He is unquestionably my crush from those movies. Legolas- or Boromir, sorry- they don't stand a chance.

i thought Cate Blanchett was lovely as Galadriel. yet, still, expected more. maybe that's the problem - just expected so much more from ELVES. ;)

i'm a pretty cut-rate elf myself. i suppose i make a better faery. :D

You expected more from the elves? For weeks, nay months after the movies came out I was in love with Peter Jackson's elves. All of them. I went to see LOTR like eight times in the theaters, and bought the DVDs the day they came out for the elves.

Elron and Galadriel. Legolas. Arwen. Haldir. Orophin and Rumil. Heck, even Figwit.

They are just as I imagined them. Tall, blonde, impossibly beautiful. Feirce warriors. Makers of beautiful things. I love Elron's house in Rivendell. I want my bedroom to look like the one Frodo wakes up in. Arwen's gowns are so beautiful. Galadriel even has stars in her eyes.

*happy sigh*

I love elves.

Yes, I am a pervy elf fancier. ;-)

when i get thin, remind me to NEVER wear my elf ears to YOUR house.

;)

seriously, i adored the CGI buildings. just... seeing The Agent as Elrond did not do it for me. and Liv Tyler? not the choice i would have made. Cate was the only one i thought came close... and only because they shot her in such soft focus much of the time.

what can i say... i think i expected something more exotic... maybe even with an Asian cast to the features.

maybe it's a weird racial memory trace? *LMAO*

I may be the only person on the face of the earth who didn't make the Elrond / Agent Smith connection. It wasn't until months later that I figured that one out. Probably just as well, as it didn't spoil the elven magic for me.

And I think Liv Tyler is a hottie, so again, that casting choice didn't bother me in the least.

And some people grump about Orlando Bloom, but physically, he is an elf. The boy was so graceful throughout the movie. And his archery! There are generally two types of archery in Hollywood movies. The William Tell hero shot (shoot the arrow off the head, shoot and split the arrow in the target, etc.) or the mass of arrows at the beginning of a battle (think Braveheart). The thing I remember most from my first viewing of LOTR was that Legolas has a bit in that final battle where he shoots four arrows in a row (and I think in the extended DVD it is actually SIX in a row!). I remember walking out of the theater and going, wow, finally a movie where someone actually shoots a bow.

OK, I'm just being a complete geek now.

yeah of coarse they give lego'lass' lot of epic. Axes and Shields still need a coriagrapher that really knows how to wield them. if you seen resident evil apocalypses you'll see the worst misunderstanding of how to use a weapon ever.

i feal i should state that legolas is a great exaple of an and elven archer/dex fighter, actually the casting of the movie was flawless in my mind who else could tell the story of the dwarfs gust my being there side from John Reese Davis. it also helped that he and the hobbits where the the right hight proportionally.

im hoping there will be a hobbit movie cause i hear there are quite a few dwarfs in it
